THREE SISTERS & CO. (2021)

March 2021

What happens when the world changes suddenly and you’re left to pick up the pieces? In Three Sisters & Co., the graduating class of George Brown Theatre School use Chekhov’s Three Sisters as a jumping-off point to explore our present reality through a zoom lens. This foundational text serves as a tool for contemporary artistic exploration, so this production is packed with heart and humanity–and performed LIVE online. Created entirely using digital platforms, Three Sisters & Co. is part classical study, part devised project, and altogether unlike anything you’ve ever seen before (online or in-person).

As an artist, I believe in creating work that responds directly to the moment we’re in. To me, the thesis of any production must answer the question of why we are doing this play here and why we are doing this play now. So, when setting out to imagine a zoom production for an incredibly talented cast of 25 in the midst of a global pandemic, I knew that we needed to lean into the moment, point out the ways that we are challenged by it, and apply all of that to the work itself. The results were pretty exceptional and I’m very proud of what we created in this strange new world.
