THE SNOW QUEEN (2019)

Stage Director
Canadian Children’s Opera Company
March 2019

A young girl, Gerda, embarks on a challenging journey to the far north to rescue her friend Kai from the clutches of the Snow Queen. Along the way, she meets a series of magical characters that help or hinder her quest. Based on the Hans Christian Andersen story (that inspired Frozen!), The Snow Queen is an epic story of an unlikely and magical journey to save a friend.

Originally commissioned by the CCOC in 1993, and revived in 2001, this classic Canadian children’s opera was updated by the composer for this production to fully employ the forces of the present CCOC, and I was able to direct a completely new production.

Presented at the Harbourfront Centre Theatre, the opera featured the 150 members of the CCOC, with a fully professional design and production team.
